ASF launches Speak New Words contest for high school students across the nation. |
Speak New Words
There's been great controversy in this country as to the power of words - particularly words in music. Debate continues about which words are okay and which words are not okay; who may say certain words and who may not say certain words. The increase of violent lyrics in music has also been the topic of much discussion. Do these words affect the listener in a negative way? The ASF is giving the high school, college, and university students of America the chance to Speak New Words through a video contest that will award a grand prize of a $5,000. Visit the contest website. |

Roger Shaw: Dunbar's Visionary Principal
Students at Dunbar may be the first students in the nation to have a formal voice in every class. Dunbar is the first school to implement the new ASF initiative, TSS-13 (Think ... Students are given this time to share their beliefs about the importance and relevance of their school's thirteen student-elected character traits. In addition, the student body collectively pauses for thirteen seconds of silence and reflection each day so that every student may foster a personal vision of accomplishment. |

Wachovia Bank Steps Up to Support the American Students' Fund!
"The Wachovia Foundation seeks to support non-profit organizations that benefit communities. The ASF is providing a means for young people from individual high schools to choose and foster those values they believe are going to make their communities stronger. Because elementary and middle schools also adopt the traits, the program benefits an entire community of schools." -- Wachovia Regional President, James M. Themides |
